A nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, that verifies the performance and the
fulfillment of Mexican standards (Normas) concerning Tequila. It also guarantees
the Tequila's authenticity and quality, and protects the Denomination Appellation
of Origin worldwide. Members of the Council include the Mexican government,
agave farmers, tequila producers, bottlers and distributors.
The name "Tequila" is protected and is restricted to the regions of Jalisco,
Michoacán, Guanajuato, Nayarit and Tamaulipas in Mexico. Tequila just as
Champagne or Cognac is restricted to be produced and bottled in his Denomination
of Origin.
The CRT ensures that the Tequila 100% Agave is made rally out of the distilled
juice of the blue agave. It is not allowed to use other sources of sugar for
his production. In order to identify if a Tequila or Tequila 100% agave comes
really from Mexico you can check on the label of the bottle if it has his
test-mark and a Nom-Number assigned by the CRT.
